Oscar Smith to Play Maryland-Power in I-95 Kickoff Classic

Oscar Smith will carry the banner for Virginia when it takes on Gilman in the 2011 I-95 Kickoff Classic, which features high school football teams from Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Eight games will be played over a three-day period starting on September 1st at Bowie State and Morgan State Universities in Maryland.

The Oscar Smith/Gilman game will be played September 2nd.  Gilman has won three Maryland state championships in the last five years.  

Another highlight will be a rematch of the 2010 I-95 Kickoff Classic game between DeMatha and Loyola on Saturday.  DeMatha will be playing its first season in 29 years without head coach Bill McGregor, who resigned earlier this year.  DeMatha won last year's game 45-31.

Then there's the public vs. private school match-up between Baltimore City champ Patterson and Archbishop Curley also on Saturday.

Former Glenville State College Head Football Coach Returns to High School

Alan Fiddler is the new head football coach at Patrick Henry High School.

Fiddler, who spent seven seasons at the head coach at Glenville State College in West Virginia, takes over for Brad Bradley, who was the head coach the last two seasons.  He was 45-34 at Glenville State.

Prior to moving to the college ranks, Fiddler was the head coach at Moorefield High School in West Virginia where he led the school to six state titles.

Louisa HS Football Coach Steps Down

Louisa High School's football program has some quick work to do.

Mark Fischer has resigned as the school's head football coach after a successful six-year run.  Last year the Lions finished 11-1, losing to Broad Run in the Division 4 Region II semifinals.

Fischer's overall record was 50-18, including a state runner-up finish in 2006.

Steve Wright Takes Over as John Battle High School's New Football Coach

For the 8th time in the last 13 years, John Battle High School has a new football coach.

Steve Wright has been named the new head coach of the Trojans.  Wright takes over for Ryan Witten, who was removed from the position of head coach earlier this year.  Witten was 7-11 in his two years at John Battle.
